Release of RANZCP Hepatitis C Professional Practice Guideline
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists has recently updated and released the Professional Practice Guideline: Treating Hepatitis C. This is intended to help psychiatrists facilitate care for people living with mental illness who are also living with or at risk of hepatitis C.
Psychiatrists have a vital role in working towards elimination of hepatitis C by identifying and linking affected individuals into appropriate treatment pathways. The guideline covers major advances in treatments through direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy and outlines the role for psychiatrists in screening and providing treatment for people with hepatitis C, as well as advocating for improved treatment programs and reducing stigma.
The document will be regularly reviewed by the RANZCP to provide up to date guidance for psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.
