National Reconciliation Week 2024 – Now More Than Ever

Last updated: 28 May 2024

The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist acknowledges this year’s National Reconciliation Week, a period of reflection, action and commitment to strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the wider Australian community.

Centred on the theme of Now More Than Ever, National Reconciliation Week calls on Australians to stand up in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and remain steadfast in our commitment to justice, healing and truth-telling.

The OCP was privileged to have staff in attendance at the National Reconciliation Week Boorloo Breakfast on Monday, hearing from Aboriginal Elders Dr Richard Walley OAM and Herbert Bropho, alongside Premier Roger Cook and Reconciliation WA Co-Chairs Nolan Hunter and Debra Zanella.

The OCP is on its own journey to better embed cultural security, understanding and Aboriginal ways of being into all aspects of our work through the Kaatadjiny Walbraaniny Danjoo project, a co-designed research initiative developed alongside Noongar Elders and young people, the Mental Health Advocacy Service and Curtin University.

We look forward to seeing colleagues, partners and community members at the Boorloo Walk for Reconciliation on Friday 31 May.

Find out more about this year’s events at the Reconciliation WA website.

Acting Chief Psychiatrist
