Individuals with intellectual disability and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, and their families, report significant barriers to mental health care in Western Australia. Recent evidence from NSW identifies that individuals with intellectual disability account for 1% of the general population, but account for 13% of the costs of mental health services. I commend to Health Service Provider leadership both this recent National Roundtable Communiqué and the Western Australian Core Capability Framework for the mental health clinical workforce.
